A CASED PAIR OF 12-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING GUNS, serial no's. 6891 & none visible,
circa 1825 and converted from pill-lock, the first with 27 1/4in. shortened twist-iron barrels, carved breech-blocks with screwed plugs and lined vents, long top-tang inlet with a white metal rectangular vacant escutcheon, border, scroll and gamescene engraved stepped back-action locks, slab hammers with patent detachable noses, walnut half-stock with chequered wrist (worn smooth), iron furniture with grip-safe to lower tang, oversize trigger-guard bow and brass mounted wood ramrod, the second similar but with 28 3/4in. barrel (slight traces of similar serial number), both worn (second more so) and with some filled worm to the first, complete with a period but re-lined and compartmented two tier oak storage case, reproduction trade-label inside lid, green baize lining and including period shot and powder flasks
